Welcome to a different perspective on leadership

Most of us do not reach the very top of the mountain but we still enjoy the climb.

We take a journey that is long and unpredictable. We try and we learn. We may not be at the top and we may not reach the pot of gold at the end, but we all appreciate the view from the middle.

View from the middle is largely focused on mid-career progression as most of us likely won’t end up in the C-Suite but can still have very rewarding careers without being titans of industry. The key areas that I’ll focus both in the general section and in individual consultation: identifying who you are professionally, where you want to go, and how to get there. There will be a healthy mix of discussion around both individual reflection and team leadership as you can’t do one without the other. Think of this to be be as simple as peer to peer learning from one mid-career professional to another – much like you would have experienced in the office informally in days gone by. As the author, I’ll endeavor to add blog posts regularly and do encourage discussion on the topics for a few reasons: I don’t have all the answers, I love a healthy debate, and by investing in a comment I know you’ll have spent some time thinking about the content which is the real goal. That being said, thanks for taking a few minutes to engage.

There’s a specific kind of exhaustion that mid-level managers know well. It doesn’t come from working too hard, although you probably are. It doesn’t come from a lack of clarity on your personal goals. It comes from being pulled in two directions simultaneously, with full force, for extended periods of time. Above you, senior leadership…

Leading Experts

As leaders, we all reach a point where we are asked to lead teams that may have more domain expertise than we do.  As a matter a fact, if we are doing the job right, our teams should develop more domain expertise than we have.  This can create an interesting managing/leading environment, especially for early…
